The fire levy provides funding for fire related services and equipment responsibilities of Clinton Township.
Since 1991, Clinton Township has assumed significant responsibility for fire apparatus used by the City of Wauseon Fire Department. Under the current service arrangement, the City of Wauseon remains responsible for fire department personnel and protective equipment, while Clinton Township is responsible for purchasing and maintaining fire trucks and other necessary apparatus.
Approximately 60% of fire levy revenue is provided to the City of Wauseon for fire service. Clinton Township also receives approximately $35,000 annually from Dover Township toward equipment costs.
Fire apparatus represents a significant long term expense. Current replacement costs for a fire truck can be approximately $1.5 million depending on specifications and equipment.
Clinton Township last purchased a new fire truck in 2011. When practical, the Township refurbishes and repurposes existing apparatus to extend equipment life and manage replacement costs.
