Clinton Township Data Center Zoning: Proposed Amendment & Hearing

2 min read

Clinton Township is taking an initial step toward establishing zoning regulations for advanced manufacturing facilities, including data centers. The proposed Clinton Township data center zoning amendment would establish a process for considering these facilities through future rezoning and conditional use approvals.

What does this mean for Clinton Township?

Under the proposed amendment, advanced manufacturing facilities, including data centers, would be classified as conditional uses within the General Industrial (M-2) zoning district.

Currently, there are no properties zoned M-2 in Clinton Township.

This means that before an advanced manufacturing facility or data center could be approved under the proposed regulations, two separate zoning approvals would be necessary:

  1. Rezoning Approval: A property would first need to be rezoned to the M-2 General Industrial District through the applicable zoning amendment process.

  2. Conditional Use Approval: Following rezoning, the proposed facility would also need to receive a conditional use permit and meet applicable zoning requirements.

This proposed amendment does not rezone any property, approve a data center, or authorize construction of a specific development.

The purpose of this initial step is to establish zoning language and a review process before any future proposals are considered.
